Book Club

Fostering a statewide community reading activity, discussion, and author talks focused on literary works featuring water in the state of Colorado and the Colorado River Basin

Join the Water ’22 Book Club to read along throughout the year as we dive deeper into everything from fiction dystopian future with not enough water to go around, to a tale of the fastest whitewater run through the Grand Canyon blended with Colorado River history, to agricultural water on the brink, to legacy mining impacts.

May – June Selection: The Emerald Mile by Kevin Fedarko

From one of Outside magazine’s “Literary All-Stars” & thousands of 5 star reviews comes the thrilling true tale of the fastest boat ride ever, down the entire length of the Colorado River and through the Grand Canyon, during the legendary flood of 1983. Kevin Fedarko lives in northern New Mexico and works as a part-time river guide in Grand Canyon National Park. In addition to his travel narratives in Outside, where he worked as a senior editor, Fedarko’s work has appeared in Esquire, National Geographic Adventure, and other publications, and has been anthologized in The Best American Travel Writing in 2004 and 2006.
